Why I Started Learning Japanese
Learning Japanese as an adult requires a blend of patience, curiosity, and steady dedication. The language invites learners to slow down and appreciate nuance, and its structure feels refreshingly different from anything I have studied before. One of the reasons I chose Japanese was because it is extremely different from English, and in the past I struggled with languages that were too similar to my own. The challenge of learning a language that works in a completely new way felt exciting rather than frustrating. Studying Japanese has become a way for me to grow through challenge and to engage more deeply with a culture I admire.
The Relationship Between Richmond and Design
Richmond is divided into many different neighborhoods, each with its own distinct qualities. While there is charm scattered throughout the various neighborhoods, I chose to explore The Fan, not only for its convenience but for the welcoming atmosphere. Mostly residential, The Fan houses many families, students, and small businesses. However, it maintains a lively nightlife with a multitude of bars and live music. Dating back to the early 1800’s, much of its history is still visible through the Victorian and Colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and abundance of foliage.
